The Bookmakers Might Have Got This One Wrong…
Just four goals are all that Arsenal have conceded in 12 Champions League matches over this whole season. Four. Across nine clean sheets, an unbeaten league phase that no club has ever managed, and three knockout ties against Leverkusen, Sporting and Atletico. And still the market opens with PSG as favourites.
I think that's a mistake.
Not because PSG are bad (they're clearly not), but Kvaratskhelia being the form player of this tournament and Dembele being ruthless in big moments doesn't tell the whole story. But the version of Arsenal that PSG beat 3-1 on aggregate in last season's semi-final had Gabriel missing, Havertz barely functioning and Saka running on fumes. Arteta's squad on Saturday is closer to full strength than it's been at any point this calendar year. They arrive carrying a Premier League title, no accumulated European anxiety, and a defensive record that borders on freakish.
We're backing Arsenal 1-0. The case isn't complicated.
Current Form
PSG — last 5: W D L W D
Lens 2-0 wrapped up a fifth Ligue 1 title in a row, so that's the good news. The rest of it? Lorient held them to 2-2. Paris FC beat them 2-1, which nobody saw coming. Brest 1-0, fine. Then the 1-1 draw at Bayern that sent them through on a 6-5 aggregate, with Harry Kane scoring in stoppage time to make the final minutes highly uncomfortable.
PSG have been sloppy when it doesn't matter in domestic games. In Europe, a completely different side. Forty-four UCL goals this season puts them one behind Barcelona's all-time record for a single campaign, with Kvaratskhelia and Dembele doing most of the damage. The physical concern I keep coming back to: Dembele's nursing a knock, Hakimi pulled up at Bayern and might not start, Pacho and Mendes both dragged themselves through that second leg on dead legs. The XI Luis Enrique puts out on Saturday is probably not the one he'd choose if everyone was fully fit.
Arsenal — last 5: W W W W W
Fulham 3-0. Atletico 1-0 in Madrid to go through to the final. West Ham 1-0. Burnley 1-0. Then Crystal Palace 2-1 on the final day with Jesus and Madueke scoring. With Declan Rice lifting the Premier League trophy in the rain at Selhurst Park marking their first Premier League Title in 22 years.
Arteta left Odegaard and Rice out of that Palace game on purpose. They've had a week to sit with the title and reset mentally. In finals, that kind of breathing room matters more than most people think.
Arsenal scored 19 Premier League goals from corners this season, more than any club in a single campaign since the competition began; that is definitely worth taking into consideration. Set pieces aren't a side dish for this team. PSG haven't had to deal with that delivery volume or quality anywhere in this tournament.
Head to Head
Seven meetings total. Two wins each, three draws. Roughly fifty-fifty when you look at the whole thing, even if PSG's recent edge feels bigger than the numbers suggest.
Last season's semi-final gets quoted a lot and it's understandable, 3-1 on aggregate puts PSG in a highly respectable position this time round. But strip out the context and you lose the story: Gabriel didn't play at all, Havertz managed only 800 minutes across that entire season, and it's safe to say that Saka was visibly struggling for a good chunk of that spring. PSG beat a heavily undermanned Arsenal, making the scoreline look far more comfortable than it actually was.
One pattern worth flagging is that both times Arsenal have won a European game against PSG, the games ended 1-0. Clean sheet, single goal. Different eras, same result. That happens to be exactly the kind of football Arteta has built this squad to produce.
Last 5 meetings
- Bayern Munich 1-1 PSG, May 2026 (UCL semi-final, PSG through 6-5 on agg.)
- Arsenal 1-0 Atletico Madrid, May 2026 (UCL semi-final)
- PSG 2-1 Arsenal, April 2025 (UCL semi-final, 2nd leg)
- Arsenal 0-2 PSG, April 2025 (UCL semi-final, 1st leg)
- PSG 2-0 Arsenal, November 2016 (UCL group stage)
UCL Final Team News and Predicted Lineups
PSG team news
Dembele sat out a training session earlier this week with a minor knock but is still likely to start. Hakimi is the one to watch, he picked up a muscle problem at the Allianz Arena and hasn't been training fully since. Zaire-Emery would step in at right-back if he doesn't make it, which costs PSG a lot going forward on that right flank. Pacho and Mendes should get through. No suspensions.
Predicted PSG XI (4-3-3): Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia
Arsenal team news
Ben White won't travel, knee injury. Timber takes his place at right-back and has been fine when fit this season. Raya sat out the Palace game as a precaution but starts Saturday. Odegaard and Rice had effectively the week off. On the bench: Havertz, Eze, Martinelli, Jesus, four players who'd walk into most squads left in this tournament, and for once they're all available at the same time.
Predicted Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie; Rice, Zubimendi; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Gyokeres
Key UCL Final Players
PSG — Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Seven goals in his last seven Champions League games. He scored inside three minutes at Bayern, picking up a one-two with Ruiz in midfield, driving straight at the defence and finishing cleanly. Bayern's backline, which had held PSG to 5-4 in the first leg, barely laid a glove on him.
Saliba will be the test. Genuinely, I think he handles it. For going on two years he's been operating at a level most centre-backs never reach. Reads diagonal runs early, doesn't get dragged into footraces, stays disciplined when teams try to pull him wide. But seven knockout goals is seven knockout goals. If Kvaratskhelia gets clean sight of goal, it goes in. Arsenal know that.
Arsenal — Bukayo Saka
He got the winner against Atletico in the semi. Fifteen shots on target across this UCL run, more than anyone else in the squad. Three goals, two assists. Those are fine numbers but honestly they undersell him because what Saka does that's hardest to quantify is the movement before the ball arrives. He finds space in the right channel just before PSG's shape resets, and by the time their fullback tracks across, the moment's already gone.
If Hakimi doesn't start, that whole side is open. Even if he does, Saka's been sharper than him for months. This is where the game turns.
UCL Final Betting Angles
Match result: Arsenal to win, 2.20 (Betfred)
PSG open as favourites with bookmakers and the narrative writes itself: they're the defending champions, the tournament's best attack and won the semi-final against this exact opponent last season. Every bit of that is already in the 1.90 price. Four goals conceded in twelve UCL games isn't. Neither is a squad that's finally fully fit going into a final, for maybe the first time under Arteta at this stage of a European campaign. Arsenal at 2.20 is the value. Please only bet what you're genuinely comfortable losing on this one, because finals are strange and one deflected goal changes everything.
Goals markets: Under 2.5 goals, 1.85 (Betfred)
This is our top tip. Under 2.5 has landed in Arsenal's last four UCL knockouts without exception. They've let in four goals across twelve European games. PSG score a lot in open play but they haven't faced a defensive block this organised in this tournament. Back Under 2.5 Goals at 1.85 with Betfred.
Both teams to score No at 1.72 sits alongside it, and nine Arsenal UCL clean sheets from twelve games makes that a hard one to turn down.
Asian handicap: Arsenal +0.5, 1.45
Pays out if Arsenal draw or win, good cover if the outright at 2.20 feels a stretch.
Value bet: Under 1.5 goals, 2.75 (Betfred)
If this ends 1-0 either way, which I think it could, Under 1.5 wins at 2.75. Could be the best return on the board for what should be the likeliest outcome.
UCL Final Bet Builder
Our bet builder: Est. 8.50 with Betfred
- Leg 1: Under 2.5 Goals. Arsenal let in four goals in twelve UCL games. PSG's front line is carrying injuries.
- Leg 2: Bukayo Saka 2+ shots on target.
- Leg 3: William Saliba 2+ clearances. Kvaratskhelia won't stop running at him. Saliba will be kept busy.
- Leg 4: Both teams to receive a card. High-stakes match, Rice and Vitinha both press aggressively.
Our Prediction
Arsenal 1-0.
The defensive record isn't a lucky streak. It's a structure that Arteta has drilled into this squad across every minute of a 12-game European run. They arrive fit, rested, title already on the shelf, with nothing left to prove domestically and one game to make history.
Kvaratskhelia gets his moments. He always does. But this Arsenal backline has conceded four goals in twelve UCL matches and hasn't let one in across their last four knockout games. That doesn't suddenly change because the occasion is bigger.
Saka gets the goal, or Havertz comes off the bench and puts one in. The same way he did in the 2021 final for Chelsea. Arsenal see it out.
Top tip: Under 2.5 Goals at 1.85 with Betfred.
FAQ
Who will win the 2026 Champions League Final?
Arsenal, 1-0, is our call. PSG start as slight favourites at most UK bookmakers and the case for them isn't stupid: defending champions, best attack in the tournament, they beat Arsenal last season. But four goals conceded in twelve UCL games is a defensive record that's hard to bet against, and with Hakimi a doubt and Dembele carrying a knock, PSG aren't fully fit. Arsenal, for once, are.
What are the best odds for PSG vs Arsenal in the 2026 Champions League Final?
Arsenal to win in 90 minutes sits around 2.20 with Betfred, PSG at roughly 1.90. Under 2.5 Goals (our top tip) is 1.85 with Betfred. On the goalscorer markets, Kvaratskhelia anytime at 2.88 (15/8) is the clearest PSG-side play; he's scored in seven of his last seven UCL games and isn't stopping for a final.
Will both teams score in the 2026 Champions League Final?
No, and we'd back that at 1.72 with Betfred. Nine UCL clean sheets for Arsenal in twelve games this season. Four consecutive knockout matches without conceding. PSG have the attackers to create chances, and with Kvaratskhelia in this form that's not in question, but getting past Saliba, Gabriel and Rice without Arsenal making a mistake is genuinely difficult. It hasn't happened to them yet in Europe this season.
